Rhythm and Balance, Scale, Texture

Image
Repetition and change is the concept that stuck out most to me during this chapter. There is something familiar and comforting about seeing repetition in our daily lives. Contrastingly, there is an excitement and buzz that comes alongside change as well. Together they help keep us on our toes visually. with the first image I posted, I wanted to convey the idea of repetition and change. The floors of this hotel I went to in Nashville became a beautiful piece of art with every floor you ascended. The change comes at the bottom of the image where it opens up into a huge atrium.  For balance and scale, I had two images I wanted to display. The first depicts this concept by having piles of sand on either side of the image became the balance. My two friends in the middle are showing the magnitude and scale of the large piles of sand. The third image shows the sun juxtaposes to the buildings. I suppose this image is more of a combination of repetition and scale. The sun

Point, Line, Plane

I chose three images that I believe display the usage of point ("position in space"), line ("infinite series of points"), and plane ("flat surface extending in height and width" Lupton/Phillips 32-34). Within these images, there is an emphasis on space and volume. I wanted to show how point, line, and plane appears in nature and in conjunction with man-made items. I believe the usage of space and volume adds elements of interest and helps draw the viewer in. The lines in these photos all point towards the center which helps anchor the viewer's eye. There is beauty in the simplicity of these images.  Images depicting point, line, and plane: All images were taken by Mathew Larosiliere.       I am a chronically future-oriented person. Every element of my life has been meticulously mapped out since the age of 5. The COVID-19 pandemic forced me to rewrite, reshape, and replan my own narrative. Living in the present was something that always felt far-fetched and outlandish to me. With the 6-month long quarantine forced upon all of us, I was involuntarily required to press the pause button on the rollercoaster-ride that is my life. With these hours spent in solitude, I developed a deeper understanding of myself. With that understanding of self came a whole new level of appreciation and gratitude for things I had always taken for granted. Community, relationships, media, art, and health were all elements of everyday life that I developed a new profound love for. With art being the main focus for this class, of course, I am eager to share what inspires, moves, and comforts me. This blog will be a cumulation of all things I have learned to love now that I have stopped to sme
